Switching power to RPi, from USB to Battery, without powering down first.

Hi,

I'd like to know if it is safe to attach the batery pack to the monsterborg and switching it on, while the RPi is powered via USB cable. In order to keep the Rpi powered when USB power is disconnected.

I usually power down the Rpi when switching from programming (Rpi powered via USB, Batteries off) and testing/driving the monsterborg. I'd like to avoid that in order to keep some ssh sessions alive.

Cheers

Thunderborg no longer detected after dead batteries

Hi,

After the batteries of our DiddyBorg died, and were replaced with new ones, the ThunderBorg is no longer recognized by the Raspberry pi.

Scanning the I2C bus via i2cdetect -y 1 returns an empty table.

I've tried the following without any success:

1. Changing different wiring harnesses (the 3 wire, jumper cables)
2. Making sure I2C is enabled in raspi-cofig
3. Re-ran the Thunderborg install script to make sure nothing was corrupted

Powering through GPIO pins

This is my first foray into robotics and really the raspberry pi in general. When everything is connected, the Raspberry pi is getting power through the source being supplied to the thunderborg via the 5v GPIO pins. The batteries running into the thunderborg are a series of 4 7.4v batteries. I'm pretty sure this is way too much power to go into the pi through the pins, since they are rated for 5v. I'm just wondering if I missed something and connected it wrong, or if this should be what's happening.

Issues connecting ps3 controller

I am trying to connect a ps3 controller so I can use the joystick demo code on the MKonsterBorg but I keep getting an authentication error:

Pairing failed-
GDBus.org.bluez.Error.AuthenticatioFailed:
Authentication Failed

This happens every time I get to the "Please enter PIN code for Device ********" Stage in the instructions
It tells me to just keep doing that until it connects but I have done this step around 17 times and cant get it to connect.
Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Questions about ThunderBorg

Hello, I'm interested in buying this motor "PiBorg Motor 12V 450RPM - 42mm". In the specifications it says:
1) Rated Current (A): 2.1
2) Stall Current (A): 12.0

My question is:
1) Can i run this motors with ThunderBorg? (the specs "Proper 5A output per motor connection")
2) If not, what motor controller can i use?

Thank you

I think i ruined my board

Hello, by mistake i reversed the battery connections to the ThunderBorg board and it is not working anymore. I connected negative from battery to V+ on the board. I saw a sparkle and it smelled like burning for a moment.

Tests i have done:
1) Connect the original battery pack that came with MonsterBorg directly to the lid of the controller and power the PI from the controller:
a) The motor controller turns on.
b) The PI turns on but reboots constantly imediately.

Alternative API for the ThunderBorg Controllers

Hi all, I've just uploaded to PyPi an alternative API for the ThunderBorg controller. This code has been around for a few years and already has some users. I just fixed a few bugs and decided to release the code so it can be pip installed.

I'm a professional Python developer with over 20 years of experience and have been writing code in general for over 40 years.

What is the Thunderborg controller behaviour under load?

Hello,

I would be very grateful you could clarify the following for me:

1) Should I expect a difference in wheel RPM, for a given motor throttle level, when the Monsterborg is carrying some extra weight versus when it is not:

For example:

Lets say we take a measurement of wheel RPM on one side (Motor1 for e.g), while the robot is suspended in air, at motor throttle level 0.5, of a standard Monsterborg build.

ROS compatibility

Is there a way to import Thunderborg modules for ROS usage via catkin_make?
